Description

These Easter bunny crescent rolls are fun, festive, and easy to make. Shaped like cute bunnies using store-bought dough, they’re perfect for Easter appetizers, bunny-themed snacks, or Easter finger food ideas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough (8-count)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Optional: cinnamon sugar, chocolate chips, jam, or Nutella for filling
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/4 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Open the crescent dough and gently unroll it onto a lightly floured surface to prevent sticking.
  3. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut each triangle lengthwise, creating two thinner triangles from each original one.
  4. Starting from the wide end, roll each triangle toward the tip as you would with a standard crescent roll.
  5. Pinch off a small piece of dough and shape it into two loops to resemble bunny ears. Tuck the ears into the top of each roll.
  6. Arrange the bunny-shaped rolls on the baking sheet with the pointed tip underneath to keep them from unrolling during baking.
  7. Whisk together the egg and water in a small bowl. Brush a light coating over each roll to help them brown nicely.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed and golden brown.
  9. In a small bowl, stir together the yeast and warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes, or until it appears foamy.
  10. In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir in the foamy yeast mixture.
  11. Gradually add the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. You may not need the full 3 1/2 cups.
  12. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  13. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  14. Once risen, gently deflate the dough and divide it into small triangles similar in size to store-bought crescent triangles.
  15. Follow the shaping, egg wash, and baking instructions as listed above for the store-bought version.
