Description
Creole Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce is a comforting dessert that combines rich flavors and textures.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of day-old French bread, cut into cubes
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup whiskey
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for sauce)
- Additional whiskey for sauce (to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed French bread and milk. Let it sit for about 15 minutes until the bread absorbs the milk.
- In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Once mixed, pour this mixture over the soaked bread, gently folding everything together until combined.
- If using raisins, fold them into the mixture. Then, pour the melted butter over the top and mix gently.
- Pour the bread pudding mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the pudding is set and the top is golden brown.
- While the pudding is baking, combine powdered sugar and whiskey in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until smooth and heated through.
Notes
- Serve warm with the whiskey sauce drizzled on top.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
