Savory French Onion Meatloaf – Comfort Food You’ll Crave
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Ground Beef (mix of lean and fatty for ideal juiciness)
- 1 cup Caramelized Onions (cooked slowly for enhanced flavor)
- 1 cup Breadcrumbs (use panko for lighter texture)
- 1 large Egg (for binding)
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder (adjust based on preference)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce (for a savory note)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 1 cup French Onion Dip (use homemade for extra flair)
- 1 cup Shredded Cheese (Swiss or Gruyère preferred)
- 2 tbsp Fresh Herbs (parsley or thyme for freshness)
- 1/2 tsp Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (for slight heat)
Instructions
- Sauté Onions: Begin by melting butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions, stirring occasionally until they become caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
- Mix Meatloaf Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, caramelized onions, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until well combined.
- Shape the Loaf: Transfer the meat mixture to a lined baking dish or on a baking sheet. Shape it into a loaf.
- Add Topping: Spread the French onion dip evenly over the top of the meatloaf. Sprinkle with shredded cheese.
- Bake: Place the meatloaf in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Rest and Serve: Once done, let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
