Description

Savory Ground Beef and Potatoes for Cozy Family Dinners

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons Canola Oil
  • 4 cups Yukon Gold Potatoes
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion
  • 1 medium Red Bell Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
  • ¼ cup Parsley

Instructions

  1. Heat a large cast iron skillet over high heat and add canola oil. Allow it to warm up until shimmering, indicating it’s ready.
  2. Lower the heat to medium-high, add the diced Yukon Gold potatoes with salt, and sauté for about 6 minutes until golden brown and tender.
  3. Remove potatoes and set aside. Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart, and sauté until browned, around 5-7 minutes.
  4. Push beef to one side and add diced yellow onion. Cook for about 3 minutes until softened, then stir in red bell pepper for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. If excess grease is present, drain it away. Return potatoes to the skillet, mixing gently with beef and vegetables.
  6. Add Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, liquid smoke, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, oregano, kosher salt, and ground black pepper. Stir and cook for an additional 6-8 minutes.
  7. Taste and adjust seasonings if necessary. Serve garnished with freshly chopped parsley.

Notes

  • Substitute canola oil with vegetable or olive oil if desired.
  • Use shallot as a milder substitute for yellow onion.
  • Green bell pepper can give a more bitter taste.
  • Substitute Worcestershire sauce with soy sauce if necessary.
  • Replace ketchup with tomato paste for thicker consistency.
  • Fresh garlic can substitute garlic powder for more intense taste.
  • Adjust kosher salt to taste, with sea salt as an alternative.
